My name is Monica. I’m a mommy.
I grew up in Wasilla, Alaska. I’m the third of eight kids - six sisters and one spoiled rotten little brother. I love my family but I will never, evereverever have that many children.
I met my husband, Matt, in 2001 when I worked at a music store in college. He came in looking for a Blink 182 CD. I pointed it out. He still didn’t see it so I had to pick it up and hand it to him. He likes to talk about how bitchy I was about it. However, being bitchy must have worked because he followed me out to my car, got my phone number, and we’ve been hanging out ever since. Sometimes, I’m still bitchy.
We were married in 2003 and in December 2007 we welcomed a beautiful little girl with a very large head into the world. She has made us laugh every day since and seeing one another in her gives us greater understanding of the powers of the universe while simultaneously reinforcing the fact that we will never understand the powers of the universe.
In May 2011, our second daughter was born. Her head wasn't quite as big, but other than that and the radical mohawk she sported for her first three months, she was pretty much identical to her older sister. Together, these two girls will take on the world and conquer it. CONQUER it, I say!
I like to call myself a writer. I have a degree in journalism and worked for an alternative weekly newspaper for four years before I had my daughter and realized she costs money. I now write government proposals for a Native corporation. I also write this blog and hope you enjoy it.
